About Clive
Clive started playing the tuba aged 8 in the Wessex Youth Band in Dorset. From the age of 10, he was performing regularly as a guest with a professional army band, the Army Air Force military band. At the age of 13 he moved to Scotland and joined the Bon Accord Silver band in the Championship division.
After leaving school, Clive studied for his LGSM teaching diploma in Aberdeen and then continued his studies at the Trinity College of Music in London. After five years of studies at the conservatoire with George Wall of the Royal Opera House, he embarked on a freelance career performing with professional orchestras both in the U.K. and abroad in Europe, Africa and Asia.
In 2005, Clive moved to Norway and has established himself as a conductor of note in the brass and wind band movement. He has won multiple competitions at a local and national level and is particularly known for his work with youth bands.
Clive is in constant demand as a freelance conductor and has worked with countless bands all over Norway, from Kristiansand in the South to Tromsø in the North.
He has worked as a conductor on the Norges Musikkorps Forbund summer courses since 2007 and in 2014, Clive was invited to join the NMF´s National Conductors Network. This was set up to inspire new methods and practices in the band movement throughout Norway.
Clive has developed a strong working relationship with bands in the Hordaland area. He has worked with Sandviken Ungdomskorps, Ravnanger Brass and in 2015 he helped Manger Skulemusikklag prepare for their appearance at the European Championships in Freiburg. He is regularly used as a conductor for projects combining players from various bands. He has worked on projects of this kind in Rogaland, Askøy, Herøy, Sunnmøre and Lofoten.
A musical relationship with the Beaumaris Band in Wales has developed since Clive was invited to help their youth band to prepare for the European Championships in 2018. He returned in 2020 to work with their adult band and led them to victory in the third division of the Welsh National Championships, and to a second place at the National Championships of Great Britain in 2021.
Since 2018, Clive has been the conductor of the county youth band of Rogaland, the Rogaland Ungdomskorps. Clive was honoured in 2023 with the "Hederstegn for Dirigenter", the medal of honour from the NMF which is awarded for: "Particularly good work over many years, work that has made a significant contribution to raise the musical level in the band movement nationally."
